I am an experienced clinical psychologist. I work with both individuals and families and treat a range of issues/disorders including ADHD, emotional and behavioral dysregulation, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
Welcome to the practice of Dr. Cindy Keefe. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and specialize in working with children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. I offer you and your child acceptance, understanding, hope, and support and develop a nurturing environment where challenges and goals can be set and direction can be established. Together we will identify issues, discuss strategies, learn new skills, and set a path forward, so that you and your child can live a more stress-free life with improved functioning and relationships.
I am a licensed and experienced clinical psychologist and certified Parent-Child Interaction therapist (PCIT). I received my Doctorate and Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University, C.W. Post. I also hold a Master’s in Applied Psychology from Fairfield University. I attended Lafayette College for my undergraduate studies. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness Techniques, and Play Therapy. I draw from these techniques and tailor them to fit your needs. Whatever challenges you and your child are facing, I am here to work collaboratively with you to generate meaningful change and identify the best possible path going forward.
My background includes positions at the residential treatment facility at Green Chimneys in Brewster, NY, the adolescent inpatient unit at Four Winds Hospital in Katonah, NY, the child/family outpatient clinic at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, NY, the Andrus Mental Health Division/Community Clinic in White Plains, NY, and the Southfield Center For Development in Darien, CT. I present to local communities on topics related to the mental health of children and adolescents.
When your child is experiencing emotional, social, or academic difficulties, everyday feels like an uphill climb. You are not alone. Our children, adolescents, and young adults live in a fast paced, competitive, and demanding world where they are expected to excel in all aspects of their lives. However, they may not be developing the life skills they need like self-control, motivation, focus, and resilience. As a result, feelings of anxiety, depression or stress can develop. Transitions can be particularly difficult. As an experienced therapist, let me help you and your child overcome your struggles and reach your true potential.
The relationship you have with your child has a tremendous impact on his/her mental, social, and emotional health. If you have concerns about the quality of your parent-child interactions or about behavioral/ emotional issues, let me help. As a certified Parent-Child Interaction therapist and an experienced parenting coach, I can teach you specific techniques that will help you improve your: family relationships, parent-child bond, child’s compliance, and limit setting abilities. As a result, you will experience a significant decrease in your child’s acting out behaviors and your parenting stress. Let’s work together to help solve your parenting and family challenges.
Do you suspect your child has attention difficulties and/or challenges with high energy and impulsive behaviors? Has your child just received a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD and you don’t know what to do? I specialize in working with children with ADD/ADHD and their families. Scientific research studies show that a combination of supportive behavioral treatments (e.g. psychoeducation, PCIT, child therapy, social skills training, school services/accommodations, EF coaching) and medical treatments result in the best possible outcomes. Let me help you to develop and individualized support plan for your child, which allows him/her to overcome the challenges associated with this condition.
